Support Your Local (Part 3)
Local Schools Need Your Help!
Even if you don’t have children attending one of your local schools, why don’t you take the time to stop by the office of the local elementary or high school, introduce yourself as a tax-paying resident of the area, and ask what you can do to make the school a better success.
It’s a great way to meet people, exchange ideas, and do a good thing, just cuz!

Support Your Local… (Part 2)
I’ve been skeptical for too long regarding the whole organic craze. I’ll admit that I’m still a little skeptical as well as too programmed to go 100% organic. I have, however, found a little place near my place that is a very popular (albeit small) organic supermarket. I recently purchased some ground beef, and had to admit to a friend of mine (who’s husband works at a larger co-op) that it was actually much, much better than ground beef I had always purchased at my normal grocery store (and I normally shop at the expensive hoity-toity store!).
The bonus is, the meat and produce at the place near my place, (what the heck, it’s Mississippi Market) stocks its shelves with local grown and locally farmed stuff. And it’s good! And it’s not that much more expensive!
So make a stop to your small local co-op or organic food store, and make a few purchases, just cuz!

Support Your Local… (Part 1)
There are a couple of great coffee shops in my neighborhood. I may be stepping out of bounds with this blog by mentioning them, thus, advertising for them, but rest assured, I’m not being compensated for telling you about White Rock Coffee Roasters and Brewberry’s (no official web site).
Both are locally owned shops, and I adore them. One of the main reasons I do is because they are part of my neighborhood. I encourage you to find your own neighborhood charm, and avoid those big box-type corporate establishments.
Mom & Pop / Family businesses are experiencing a slow death, especially in our current economy. And although it may be true that you’ll save a nicked or dime for each item purchased at a larger chain, those nickels and dimes are going into some bigwig’s pockets. So instead of adding to their wealth, why not spend the extra fifty cents of buck, and see that it goes into the pockets of your neighbors… just cuz!
