My tv has been off since June 12,2009. I have no idea if I will get a converter box. I have found that my habits have changed. I love going to the library and borrowing a good book or renting a free movie. I don't miss watching all the negative news on tv.

Amen! One can at a time. Or better yet, set yourself a monetary limit and get as many as you can for that amount. Tuna and soups can really add up that way. You can give up small things in exchange for having something on hand to eat in case of an emergency. Check out: http://readinessquips.wordpress.com/2008/09/13/in-translation/

Ok, so I'm baised here...

But totally agree with this post, as a water cooler company we do supply to the home market.

I'd also like to add that a several water cooler suppliers (including ourselves) supply water that comes out of the ground so pure that it doesn't need processing, this is great because it reduces CO2 emmisions.

We also recycle the water bottles, so this helps combat the uneccessary dumping of plastic in landfills.

Sorry to hijack this post like this, but it's rare to find someone who is for water coolers! Lots of people seem to think that they are worse for the environment than tap water, without realising the amount of energy used in the sanitisation and delivery of tap water.
